You can option a 2017 CTS-V to over $111k. Dubya. Tee. Eff.

Well how much can you option a M3 to?

Where I live the CTS-V starts at the equivalent of $183k. $77k of that is gas guzzler/CO2 tax.
As a result I’ve never seen a current gen CTS or ATS in my life (in Europe).

Sweden?

CF body panels and a data recorder for a car that will never see a tire touch a track. So silly.
For $111k I’m getting a Panamera with a measily 2.9 liter V6.

Having ridden 4 up in a CTS-V on a road course I can say some touch tracks. Those that are bought by silly fun people.

No, the Netherlands.

$92k if you don’t dip into the BMW Individual colors & upholstery. But the CTS-V starts at $85k vs. $67k for the M3. At this point the CTS-V is more chasing the M5 anyway, which starts at $94k.

Oh I didn’t realize more than just a handful of countries in Europe had gas taxes. That’s no fun.
![]() 11/22/2016 at 16:14 |

That’s more reasonable if it’s more of an M5 fighter.

Good to hear that, though like any of these that is still an extreme outlier. I do applaud that Cadillac went through great efforts to make their V models track-worthy.

Agreed. I could get a Prius for €25k (plus VAT) though...
I felt dirty when I said that.

Find another 600hp+ 4 door that is less expensive.... Except the hellcat... I will wait.
![]() 11/22/2016 at 16:22 |

M3/M4 = 425 hp
ATS-V = 464 hp
M5/M6 = 560 hp
CTS-V = 640 hp

Fuck. Socialism sucks.
![]() 11/22/2016 at 16:34 |

WOW. That is absolutely insane. I can’t believe that it’s $24k cheaper than a fully-spec’d M5.
Great job, Cadillac!
![]() 11/22/2016 at 16:35 |

Exactly. I did check the M5 for comparison. If you go bonkers it can get to around $120k.

Nothing to do with socialism. No gas guzzler tax on a Tesla.
![]() 11/22/2016 at 16:36 |

Ouch. That’s insane.
![]() 11/22/2016 at 16:38 |

Yeah, EXACTLY. The commie Teslas don’t have to worry about it.
Is it socialism, or do y’all just hate American Freedom V8s?
![]() 11/22/2016 at 16:38 |

Yeah yeah I know. It just doesn’t seem right though.

A Tesla is American too you know.

The dyno sheets are showing the M5 to be wildly underrated. Most are putting out something like 525whp which would be right in the area of 630hp at the crank. Same with the M3, which is putting out something around 500hp.

Sort of related rant:
I can’t understand what’s better when people compare Audi RS v/s BMW M v/s AMG v/s Cadillac V. They are quick to spout differences of 20, 30 or 60 hp and ft. lbs. of torque.
But when it comes to the actual review of how the car handles, its all metaphors and hyperboles.
What I’m saying is I don’t care if CTS V offers 600 hp, because I don’t know if that’s better. No one can explain how it (or any car) handles that power in definitive terms. Yes, its subjective but there should be like a standard checklist of specific questions for every reviewer to answer and standard answers - like how magazines list performance stats
For example -
Like does it require a lot of effort to over steer? Is it too easy to over steer?
Is the steering twitchy?
Does traction control kick in at inopportune moments? How does it kick in?
Does the automatic shift in sport mode match reviewer’s sporty driving styles - Matt explained this very well in the Merc S63 AMG Cabrio review. More of that would be nice!

haven’t seen one as all are LHD. RHD needed here in Oz.

If you don’t dip into BMW individual what are you doing?
![]() 11/23/2016 at 08:58 |

Honestly, at those specs you really are just buying A)What you really like or B)The brand you have always bought from.
![]() 11/23/2016 at 09:10 |

I agree. It’s not all just about powwwaaahhh. What you’re saying reminds me of one of the Merc reviews from Top Gear several years ago. The car had a ton of power but that’s really all it had.
I mean, that’s great if that’s all you want, but I want something that has a good balance of everything and can go around a corner without hitting a tree.

I’d say that behavior is true regardless of what price range you shop for cars in - for most people.
For enthusiasts who are in it regardless of the brand, idk what to do lol

No, that’s Dutch. The Netherlands has very high car taxes.
